FIRST OFFICER BRIAN ALEXANDER

041217_jumpseatpr.pngLast week, we told you about a terrible fall First Officer Brian Alexander had on Christmas Eve. Below is a message from Captain Mike Cruff on behalf of Brian's family.

Fellow FedEx Pilots,
On behalf of the Alexander Family, I’d like to thank you for the prayers and well wishes. For those of you that haven’t already heard, MD11 First Officer, Brian Alexander “BA” had a terrible fall on Christmas Eve.
Among his injuries, Brian suffered Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI). TBIs often lead to a slow recovery with many different prognosis paths.
The doctors have told Jeanie (Brian’s wife) to expect to see 2 steps forward and 1 step back in regards to BAs recovery. The road ahead appears to a long one for both Brian and his family.
Ok, many of you have been asking how you can help. Continued prayers are the first request of the family. Next, Jeanie has given me permission to start a Gofundme campaign for BA. The financial burden could potentially add stress for the family. Let’s help Jeanie have the ability to support Brian and her boys without thinking about money. Medical bills and time out of work could eventually become a burden. Let’s remove that obstacle before it becomes an issue. Please feel free to advertise the gofundme campaign and the ability to send a check directly to me to support the Alexander Family. If a check is a better option for you, please write the check out to Jeanie Alexander, but mail the check to me at 441 Shambala Drive, Collierville, TN 38017.
Again, please send this text out to any and all that you think might be interested in helping our cause. Here is the link to make a donation: https://www.gofundme.com/help-BA-his-family.
I’ve been best friends with Brian for over 20 years and I honestly don’t know a better pilot, gentleman and family man! Please consider helping Brian any way that you can.
Thanks again for all the support and outreach. Please direct any questions my way. My personal email is: mikecruff@gmail.com.
In Unity,
Captain Mike Cruff

Attention: Pilots Who Planned to Disenroll in Tricare for 2018 to Enroll in One of the CDHP HSA Options:
It has come to ALPA’s attention that an error occurred in the FedEx enrollment system during the 2017 Annual Enrollment period. The enrollment system prompted questions to determine the pilot’s eligibility for benefits. One of the questions was “Are you eligible for Tricare?” If the pilot answered "yes," the enrollment system did not allow the pilot to enroll in either of the CDHP HSA options. For pilots who planned to disenroll in Tricare for 2018, the answer to this question should have been "no."
If you planned to disenroll in Tricare for 2018 in order to enroll in one of the CDHP HSA options, but were unable to do so because of the enrollment system glitch, you may do so now. There is a correction period that ends on December 31st, which allows you to make enrollment corrections. To make corrections, please contact Pilot Benefits Administration (PBA) at 866.795.6353.
Please be aware that as of 12 December, the Beneficiary Web Enrollment website is not operational for veterans to make changes to their TRICARE. It should be available at the end of December. We realize that the end of the year is rapidly approaching and ALPA is working with FedEx Benefits to achieve a resolution to this issue.

ipad support - UNDERSTANDING BATTERY PERCENTAGE
T
he settings application allows you to view aspects of your device’s battery consumption. Navigate there by launching “Settings”, then select “Battery”. The Battery options allow you to show battery percentage, reduce brightness, and see battery consumption by the most used apps. This can be segmented into 24 hours and the last 7 days.

Interpreting this information includes viewing the most battery consuming apps and making sure they are closed when not in use. Also you may adjust the screen brightness and auto-lock settings to receive battery life.
It is our goal in Flight Ops iPad Support, to continue to provide you with helpful information. Please feel free to let us know what you think by writing to iPad Support at FDCMS@fedex.com.
