We strongly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and sign-up to attend a Focus Meeting. Meetings beyond these dates will be made available in Memphis and also at other pilot domiciles. Additional dates and locations will be announced in a separate communication.

FROM THE SAFETY COMMITTEE
R ecently, the FAA distributed  Safety Alert for Operators (SAFO) 18003, Procedures for Addressing Odors, Smoke and/or Fumes in Flight. SAFO 18003 identifies a need to enhance flight crew procedures that mitigate the risk to passengers and crew in the event of odors, smoke and/or fumes. The SAFO directs air carriers to review their procedures related to odor, smoke and/or fume events. The SAFO suggests that air carriers should review or collaborate with others to ensure their procedures allow the flight crew to recognize, differentiate and mitigate the different odors, smoke and/or fumes that can be present in the cabin or flight deck.
As a reminder, ALPA has created a member only webpage on Fume Exposure Guidance under the Pilot Resources tab ( https://www.alpa.org/resources/fume-exposure-guidance) that also provides guidance to crew members, along with another good document from IATA on the topic. The IATA Medical Guidance on Cabin Air Quality Events is a useful tool to help you evaluate whether your air carrier is providing adequate information, training and/or procedures to recognize, differentiate or mitigate an odor, smoke and/or fume event.
ePOCKET CALENDAR iCAL SECONDARY LINE UPDATES
Secondary Line Upgrade. The company is rolling out the secondary line upgrade software for three bid-packs in April: Los Angeles, Indianapolis, and Hong Kong. This is to work through any issues that may arise for pilots using the new system and correct them before going live for all bid-packs in May. The upgrade can affect all line holders. Please reference FCIF 18-0125 and the CBA for details.
There are now 2 "close" dates for the secondary line in these bidpacks: (1) The first 48 hours and (2) the complete 144 hours. ( 25.E.6.) The first 48 hours is important because certain vacation adjustments can only be accomplished during this period. ( 25.E.6.b.)
If this is something that impacts you and you have previously downloaded the iCal files for the ePocket Calendar, an updated version is now available here listed as *2018 MEC iCal files*.
This message will be repeated when the change goes into effect for all bidpacks in May.

T hanks to your generous donations, we were able to donate $50,000 to the Peyton Manning Children's Hospital in Indianapolis for an airplane-themed room. The dedication and grand opening for the new room will be held on Friday, May 18th. All pilots are invited to attend and spouses and children are welcome. Please plan to meet in the lobby of the hospital (2001 W. 86th Street, Indianapolis) for a reception beginning at 1100. After a couple of very brief presentations during the reception, everyone will proceed to the room for the dedication, ribbon cutting and tour.
If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact IND Pilots for Kids coordinator Captain Dan Ferracciolo at Dan.Ferracciolo@alpa.org.
