FIRST OFFICER BRIAN AUSTEIN
thumbnail_052218_BAustein.jpgYou may recall a message we published last month asking fellow MD-11 first officers to consider a PDO bump for FO Austein as he was very ill and unable to fly his remaining April and May trips. We've been in contact with Brian and his wife, and are sad to report that he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer with metastasis to the brain. He is currently seeking treatment options that require long distance travel and overnight stays. As you can imagine, the cost for travel and medical expenses not covered by insurance are adding up quickly. A GoFundMe campaign has been created to help ease the financial burden on this family. If you would like to help raise funds to assist Brian and his family with these unplanned expenses, please click here to be directed to the GoFundMe page. Please keep Brian and his family in your thoughts and prayers as they fight this battle against cancer.

IPAD TIP: DATA ROAMING ISSUE
The “restricted while roaming” message some users see while attempting to use Browser on the Pilot iPad is not a new feature. Rather it is an unintended glitch. For a temporary solution, you can avoid the problem altogether by using Safari which still functions normally. For a permanent solution, we have found that accomplishing the following steps should eliminate the problem. If you would, please take a moment to update us at FDCMS@fedex.com regarding your results. Thank you for your input.

  1. Delete Browser – by pressing and holding the Browser icon on the iPad Home screen until the device enters edit mode and an “X” appears. Tap the “X” on the Browser icon to delete the app.
  2. Perform a hard reset – by pressing and holding both the Power and the Home buttons until the Apple logo appears. Then release both buttons and allow the iPad to restart.
  3. Sync the Agent app – with a good internet connection, tap the Agent icon to open the app, then tap the image of the iPad to advance to the next screen, then tap “Send Data” at the top of the screen (unfortunately, there will be no indication for successful completion of this step).
  4. Reinstall Browser – with a good internet connection, navigate to the FedEx App Catalog and install AirWatch Browser.
  5. Continue to use Browser normally and verify the return of full functionality.
It is our goal in Flight Ops iPad Support, to continue to provide you with helpful information. Please feel free to let us know what you think by writing to iPad Support at  FDCMS@fedex.com.
