AVA SUBMISSION INFORMATIOn

During the time specified in the Hotel Standby Agreement, 22NOV18-31DEC18, Contract Enforcement heard from some pilots that were denied AVA submissions due to “Sufficient Reserves” which is in violation of the Agreement. We were able to get remedies for those pilots that contacted us, but ALPA wants to be sure that there are not other pilots similarly situated. Please reach out to Contract Enforcement if you were denied an AVA submission from 22NOV18-31DEC18 for “Sufficient Reserves” if you have not already done so at your convenience at FedEx-Enforcement@alpa.org

Hotel Standby Agreement:
Advance Volunteer Assignment (AVA) Submission Approvals and Compensation
Section 25.N.4.a. (p. 347) provides that “AVA shall be available and assigned to all eligible pilots beginning 7 days prior to showtime for that assignment, based on the reserve forecast.”

  • The parties agree that during the period referenced in Paragraph 1.a. above, all AVA submissions shall be deemed to be within the acceptable limits of the reserve forecast model (and thereby approved); and
  • During other times of the year (below), AVA submissions for Base Hotel Standbys (BHS-RS or otherwise) shall be deemed to be within the acceptable limits of the reserve forecast model (and thereby approved).
    • between Thanksgiving day and December 31; or
    • during a bid period in which the Company has requested voluntary vacation cancellations in the pilot’s crew position; or
    • during a bid period in which the Company has involuntarily canceled a vacation in the pilot’s crew position.

For HKG, calling will open at 8am local time.
MEM FIRST OFFICER NEEDS YOUR ASSISTANCE

MEM First Officer Scott Powell is seeking your assistance in bumping Trip 314 on February 20th. Scott's father is terminal with cancer and his mother's health just took a turn for the worst requiring her to be admitted to a nursing home facility. Scott and his sisters have been caring for his parents, but one of his sisters was diagnosed with melanoma just a few days ago. As you can imagine, this is a difficult time for all involved. We ask those of you qualified to operate in the right seat of the 777 to please consider offering a PDO bump, which will allow Scott the ability to care for his family.

KIX HYATT REGENCY UPDATE

We would like to thank everyone who filled out an INSITE report and copied us concerning the Hyatt Regency Osaka. As many of our international flyers know, we've received numerous complaints regarding layovers at this property. After receiving these complaints, your MEC Chairman exercised Section 5.B.4.b.ii of the CBA. This was the first time an MEC Chairman has used that section to affect change. This section provides for a meeting between the Vice President of Flight Operations and the MEC Chairman to discuss problem areas.

We're pleased to report that we had a very productive meeting, and in no small measure, thanks to the data gleaned from the INSITE reports we were copied on. Showing up to the meeting with 147 INSITE reports, each illustrating the shortcomings of that layover, made it extremely easy to make our case. The end result is that moving forward, the majority of the Osaka layovers will be at the Swissotel. To be clear, we will still be laying over at the Hyatt, but to the max extent possible, we will be using the Swissotel. To view a copy of the letter we received from the Vice President of Flight Operations, please click here

Please continue to copy your union on all company INSITE and Fatigue reports you submit. When it comes to your quality of life, there can be no give. The system works only if we use it. Remember, no data, no problem. Give us the data to push back where needed.

Please continue to send copies of INSITE reports to Insite@alpa.org and Fatigue reports to FatigueReport@alpa.org.

Choosing a Licensed Counselor or Therapist

Seeking support, encouragement, and information through professional counseling can help you to be your best, personally and professionally. You can partner with a trusted counselor to improve yourself, your relationships, or get help with common issues like depression or anxiety.
Several types of professionals provide counseling: licensed professional counselors (LPC), licensed clinical social workers (LCSW), licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFT), psychologists, and psychiatrists.
Every state has specific laws, regulations, and requirements for obtaining a professional license. A master’s degree from an accredited university, supervised experience, and agreement to ethical codes, along with passing a licensing exam, are minimal requirements. Please click here to continue reading.
