IND Pilots for Kids

Dear Indy PFK,

The 2017 Indy PFK visitation season is upon us. Last year we visited 187 kids at St. Mary's Child care centers, 100% of whom live in poverty and 146 hospitalized kids in three children's hospitals. Let's do it again!

This year we will again visit all three local children's hospitals and both campuses of St. Mary's Child Care Center. As has become usual and customary, we will be slot limited due to infection and staffing protocol at the hospitals. There are no slot limits at either campus of St. Mary's, however, so the more the merrier and maximum pilot induced buffoonery (PIB) is expected and appreciated. St. Mary's has adopted a new all-day format at both campuses. There are no longer any half-day sessions so we will go to each campus only once in the morning as opposed to going twice to each campus as we have done in years past. What this means for us is a greater amount of time with fewer kids. Should be fun.

To our new members (we have many, from all over the industry) - welcome aboard! If this is your first visitation season with us, you can get an idea of what each visit looks like by viewing the pics from last year on our web page: pilotsforkids.org > members > IND. Please come to each event in the uniform of your choice: Airline, Military (bags ok) or corporate, and be prepared to engage with the kids and have fun. IOE will be provided. It's all about distracting the kids from whatever medical condition or life circumstance that they are experiencing at the moment. I am so grateful for your enthusiasm and willingness to participate in Indy PFK events. I think you will find that we get a lot more out of it than the kids do.

2017 Information and Schedule - UPDATED AS OF 12/5/17:

So far this season:

Two hospitals. 28 kids at IU Riley North. 21 kids at PMCH. 19 pilots, goofy hats and ties, a drone flying high and taking pics, another drone crashing into walls and ceilings in hospital rooms, pilot induced buffoonery, laughter, a few smiles on a few little faces that weren't there before we arrived, and at least one made day: Will's. Will is a 16 year old young man who is recovering from lung surgery in our (yet unfinished) PFK Airplane room at PMCH. I got this email from Will's dad:

Hello,

I just want to say a big thank you for making my kids day today. He is in your room, room 4012 at Peyton Manning Hospital. He just had surgery today for a collapsed lung and your pilots came in which was a welcome surprise.

My son, Will, wants to say thanks for the gifts, the kindness of your organization, and your pilots.

Thank you again,
William Miller
Father

Makes it all worthwhile.

We have three more visits scheduled for the remainder of our season: St Mary's downtown on the 7th, St. Mary's Ft. Ben on the 12th and Riley downtown on the 15th. Although all slots are allocated at Riley, both St. Mary's Child Care Center visits are open. Please let me know if you would like to attend either or both visits to St. Mary's.

If you have not already done so and would like to include our toy account in your tax deductible charitable giving this year, please go to our website: pilotsforkids.org Click on the blue donate button and follow the directions. Please remember to direct your donation to IND-Ferracciolo in the drop down menu under donation details. 100% of your donation goes toward the purchase of toys and gifts for the kids we visit here in Indy.

Your donations, your time, energy, spirit, and enthusiasm make it possible for us to bring a smile to some kids who may really need to be distracted from their life circumstances. Sometimes we even (like Will) make their day. Thank you for facilitating another incredible Indy PFK season!

Respectfully,

Dan
