FEDEX ALPA MENTOR PROGRAM
T he Membership Committee is starting a mentoring program for our new hire pilots. This program has been in the planning stages for several months. It is an initiative conceived and run by ALPA volunteer pilots and its focus will be to provide information, procedures and resources related to a career as a FedEx ALPA pilot, specifically during the first 12-15 months of employment. The intent is to assist new hires and help them successfully navigate through their probation period. We are sure that you would all agree that having a mentor available would be a great resource to them as they learn the FedEx system form... ( continue reading)

FROM THE GRIEVANCE COMMITTEE: DEADHEAD CLASS OF SERVICE
Enforcing Section 8.A.5.d. (Company Purchase of Higher Class of Service Tickets in Bid Period Package):
If you are due a higher class of service on a bid package trip, management is obliged to purchase your ticket before it purchases tickets requiring a lower class of service. We recently received a report from a pilot concerning this type of situation.
Initially, 3 weeks prior to his deadhead, he checked Business class availability and noticed that there were 7 seats available, but no ticket purchased for him. A week or so later, the company purchased an Economy class ticket without a request for an upgrade to a higher class of service." The pilot was able to contact Global Travel and obtain a ticket in the appropriate class of service, but the delay in purchasing his ticket and the eventual failure to include an upgrade request warrant a closer look at how this benefit is being processed for everyone. We are asking that you participate in tracking the timing of purchasing of tickets for your scheduled deadheads, especially when a higher class of service is contractually mandated, and inform ALPA of any issues or system failures. Please use the form found here ( http://fdxcomm.alpa.org/dhfeedback/) to record and submit all deadhead ticket information as it applies to you. If you find a delay in the purchase of your ticket, we recommend that you also contact Global Travel and separately document the event with Contract Enforcement.

T hanks to your generous donations, we were able to help raise more than $50,000 in order to sponsor a Pilots for Kids/Airplane themed hospital room at Peyton Manning Children's Hospital in Indianapolis. The dedication and grand opening for the new room will be held on Friday, May 18th. All pilots are invited and spouses and children are welcome. If you would like to attend, please plan to meet in the lobby of the hospital (2001 W. 86th Street, Indianapolis) for a reception beginning at 1100. After a couple of very brief presentations during the reception, everyone will proceed to the room for the dedication, ribbon cutting and tour.
If you are planning on attending the event, or have any questions, please contact IND Pilots for Kids coordinator Captain Dan Ferracciolo at Dan.Ferracciolo@alpa.org.

IPAD TIP: DOWNLOADING/UPDATING FEDEX APPS
Often iPad support will direct users to the FedEx app catalog for important updates and downloads. After tapping “Install” next to an app the prompt changes to “Processing” which causes some users to wait for further action on this page. However this app is actually updating in the background on the home screen.

App updates will show the app with a grayed out appearance with a clocklike animation indicating progress. When complete most updated apps will show a blue ball next to it to indicate that it is new. We are working with AirWatch developers on a way to communicate this on the download page itself.
It is our goal in Flight Ops iPad Support, to continue to provide you with helpful information. Please feel free to let us know what you think by writing to iPad Support at  FDCMS@fedex.com.
