AVIATION SAFETY CULTURE SURVEY
We recently published a message regarding the Aviation Safety Culture Survey (SCS) taking place this month. This year's SCS is your opportunity to give your frank assessment of safety in our operation. You will be able to express your viewpoints on ANY subject you believe impacts the safety of our operations. If you haven't had a chance to read the message from your MEC and Safety Committee regarding this survey, we encourage you to take a few moments and read it now

The 65th ALPA Air Safety Forum (ASF) is taking place this week in Washington, D.C. This week's event features panels and discussions with aviation safety and security experts, technical and educational exhibits, recognition of outstanding pilot contributions, and much more.
Several FedEx pilots are participating in and serving as subject matter experts on various topics including, but not limited to, safety, security, jumpseat and dangerous goods.
The open session of the forum will begin on Thursday, July 18th and will be live-streamed on ALPA's website. Joining ALPA President Capt. Joe DePete and the ALPA Air Safety Organization, this year's speakers include:
  • Joseph Szwalek, Associate Director General, Civil Aviation, Transport Canada
  • The Honorable Elaine L. Chao, Secretary, U.S. Department of Transportation
  • Fellow ALPA leaders, pilots, regulators and other industry stakeholders

UPDATE ON DISPUTED PAIRINGS
This month there are 11 disputed pairings. Why are these disputes handled differently?
Memphis A300 August Disputed Pairings
#165 #169 #217 #225 #230
#235 #241 #260 #327 #332
#444
There are two unique disputed pairing tracks in CBA.25.BB.E: The System Chief Pilot track and Fatigue Risk Management Group (FRMG) track since CBA 2015 came into effect.
“If the only underlying rationale for the dispute is based on a fatigue-related concern, the dispute must follow the FRMG track (25.BB.E.5.a).”
The Scheduling Improvement Group (SIG) and Pilot Scheduling Improvement Team (PSIT) dispute dozens of pairings every month. Normally, most are resolved during the week we build the schedules and the process is transparent to the crew force. The majority of disputes that are not resolved have been primarily fatigue related and referred to the Fatigue Event Review Committee (FERC) as outlined in the FRMG track. CONTRACT ANSWER TEAM (CAT) SEEKING VOLUNTEERS
Do you have your phone in your hand at all times and constantly check your emails? If so, the CAT needs you!
The Contact Answer Team is a group of volunteers that will be standing by to answer our pilots' contract-related questions 24/7. We have approximately 60 fully trained members now ... but we need more to launch and be successful!
  • You do not have to be a contract expert.
  • You simply need to be contract savvy.
  • Training is a video conference call followed by 5 practice questions.
  • Please consider volunteering for this worthy service for our pilots.
Please contact me with any questions.

FEDEX PILOTS CAR BUILD TO BENEFIT ST. JUDE
It's time once again for our annual FedEx Pilots Car Build to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. This year's replica 1965 Shelby Cobra will mark our fourth car build. Unlike other hospitals, the majority of funding for St. Jude comes from generous donors. Approximately 75 percent of the funds necessary to sustain and grow St. Jude must be raised each year from donors. This is where we need your help—please consider making a donation on behalf of our pilot group and please share our fundraising website with your friends and family! Because of our fundraising efforts in the past three car builds, the FedEx Pilots have raised over $265,000. Click here to read more.

COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN OpeningS
We are currently seeking to fill the Training Committee and Community Outreach chairman positions. Any pilot interested in filling these positions should contact MEC Secretary Treasurer First Officer Don Loepke at Donald.Loepke@alpa.org.
UNION DUES AFTER PROBATION ENDS
We often get asked by our new hire pilots why there is a balance of dues owed when ALPA completes their dues reconciliation each year. As a reminder, if your probation end date is after the 15th of the month, your dues will start being deducted the following month. ALPA will attempt to reach out to each individual pilot regarding the amount owed or it will come out in dues reconciliation.
FIRST OFFICER BRET CARROLL
We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of First Officer Bret "Doogie" Carroll on July 11, 2019, after a long battle with mantle cell lymphoma. Doogie proudly served his country as a Naval Aviator and instructor pilot for 20 years, flying EA-6B Prowlers and F-18 Hornets, before beginning his career at FedEx.
He leaves behind his wife Theresa and 3 children, Christian, Jonathan and Will. A memorial service is planned for a later time. We ask you to keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
