LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS SUMMIT
This week, ALPA is hosting a legislative summit with over 150 pilots from around the Association in attendance. Yesterday, FDX MEC Legislative Affairs Committee Chairman Captain Bill Secord had the opportunity to speak to those in attendance. Captain Secord and Jeff Pavlak (ALPA Legislative and Policy Representative) spoke about the dangers of the Single Pilot Commercial Cargo Program that is currently included in the House FAA Reauthorization Bill and what we can do to keep it out of the Senate version.

Tomorrow, members of ALPA will be meeting with representatives on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. with the primary focus on discussing this issue. Additionally, a media blitz will begin tomorrow targeting Congress and their staff on Capitol Hill. Politico.com will specifically be targeted with ALPA’s message on the dangers of this program.
As you know, we’ve issued a Call to Action allowing all of our members to voice their concerns with this program. It takes less than a minute for you to complete the Call to Action and urge your representatives to protect aviation safety and your airline pilot careers. This program will have an impact on all of us—we need 100% participation from FedEx pilots! To participate now, click here.
FROM THE FATIGUE RISK MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
Success at What Cost?
Fatigue Risk Management vs. Profit
Fatigue is not an issue, unless it affects you. If you are flying hard, challenging flights and are exhausted at the end of the week—fatigue is your issue. One of the problematic parameters we are working with the company on is WMD’s—weekend vs. Monday deadheads. FedEx’s concern is how much it costs to change the schedule when reducing fatigue risk. One might state that the monetary gain versus the pilots’ increased fatigue risk is a success. What do you think?
We asked the MEC Scheduling Committee for some information on Sunday deadheads vs. Monday deadheads to start a week of night flying. Click here to read the full article.
RECOGNITION OF RETIRING ALPA VOLUNTEER KEN KULESHA
A LPA is a volunteer organization, fueled by the efforts of line pilots just like yourselves who give freely of their time and effort for the benefit of us all. As a member of the CIRP (Critical Incident Response Program) and PATH (Pilot Assistance Team Hotline), Ken has selflessly assisted others in their times of need for more years than most of us can remember. Described by those who’ve known him as someone who would literally give the shirt off of his back, Ken will certainly be missed upon his retirement later this month. Please join us in thanking him for his service and wishing him well!

EAA AIRVENTURE IN OSHKOSH, WI
This year's  event will take place the week of July 23-29 and ALPA will be an exhibitor. We have  volunteer opportunities available at the ALPA booth or KidVenture. Shifts are available during the morning and afternoon (typical shifts will be 0900-1300 and 1300-1700).
ALPA is unable to cover entry, transportation or other expenses, but may be able to provide free camping in the ALPA area in Camp Scholler. Those interested in volunteering should email F/O Kandy Bernskoetter at Kandy.Bernskoetter@alpa.org. Please include your name, phone number, email address, and the days/times you are available. Also indicate whether you want to volunteer in the ALPA booth or KidVenture.
Booth volunteers will greet OSH attendees, answer questions about their careers and ALPA. We will provide a short training on talking points.
KidVenture volunteers will do weight and balance activities with kids coming through the KidVenture tent.
This is a fun way to spend some time helping out, and meeting new people!

FROM THE R&I COMMITTEE: NEW RECORDKEEPER FOR THE PRSP
A Request for Proposal (RFP) for the selection of a recordkeeper for the PRSP began in January 2017 in accordance with CBA Section 28.M. ALPA members of the Investment Committee and ALPA staff participated in the process and provided feedback to the Company. ALPA's intent is to provide our pilots with the best DC Plan costs, servicing, participant education and technology available. The RFP was completed in November 2017 and a new recordkeeper was selected for the PRSP. Effective January 2019, Fidelity will be the recordkeeper for the PRSP.
Concurrent with the engagement of the new recordkeeper the PRSP will provide the ability for pilots to engage a third party financial advisor to manage his/her account including their individual brokerage account. Pilots interested in this option will be required to sign an agreement to hold harmless the Company and ALPA for any losses resulting from such engagement.
