Your MEC has contacted the University of New Hampshire Survey Center (UNH) to conduct a phone survey of our membership. The purpose of the telephone survey is to assist in early preparations for contract negotiations. The survey will be followed in several months by a longer, more detailed web-based survey. Questions in the upcoming telephone survey will broadly address contract goals, expectations, bargaining power, pilot unity, contract enforcement, treatment by management, and union-related views. To help maximize our bargaining power for the next negotiations, your MEC and your Negotiating Committee feel it is very important to take a broad gauge of pilot sentiments at this time. If you are called by the University of New Hampshire, please take the time to share your views.
  • Calls will begin September 12th and end on September 25th (14 day calling period)
  • All calls will come from 603-397-0654
  • Caller ID on landlines will indicate “UNH Surv Ctr”
  • Caller ID on cell phones will indicate “NH Call”
  • Calling times are between 9am and 9pm (time zone appropriate)
  • Interviewing 600 pilots (randomly selected)
  • UNH will attempt to call you back if your sampling quota is not yet completed.
  • For HKG, calling times begin at 9am local time.
  • For CGN, calling times begin at 3pm local time.
JOIN ALPA FOR THE 9/11 REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY
image007.jpg
The 9/11 attacks had a profound impact on our lives, our union, and the aviation industry as a whole. Since September 11, 2006, when we dedicated the Remembrance Garden in Herndon, ALPA pilots and staff have come together to remember the events of that day and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.

This Patriot Day, we continue the tradition at our Valo Park office and we invite staff to take part in ALPA’s annual Remembrance Ceremony. We hope you can join us and gather with ALPA’s national officers, Executive Council, other pilots, and fellow staff as we pay tribute to the crewmembers of American Flight 11, American Flight 77, United Flight 93, and United Flight 175.

CAPTAIN MICHAEL ARCAMUZI RAISING AWARENESS AND FUNDS TO BENEFIT THE AMERICAN DIABETES ASSOCIATION
Many of our fellow pilots generously give to various non-profit and charitable organizations throughout the year. Many of those same pilots participate in fundraising events for organizations by challenging themselves to do something physically demanding in hopes of having others sponsor their effort through monetary donations.
Captain Michael Arcamuzi will soon participate in the Tour de Cure bike race to benefit the American Diabetes Association (ADA) in New Orleans. The 62-mile race will take place on October 26, 2019, and is a celebration of the ADA's mission and a chance to raise critical funds to help fight diabetes. This year's race has approximately 169 participants and 30 teams participating. Michael's decision to participate and fundraise for this cause is personal—a tribute to his father who passed away in 2003. "Dad taught me to fly and developed diabetes late in life after he retired from United Airlines," Michael explained. "I've participated in this race for the past 5 or 6 years and feel this race allows me to honor my dad while raising money for a great cause in hopes of finding a cure so that other families don't have to deal with diabetes."
Currently, Captain Arcamuzi is in first place for his fundraising efforts for the New Orleans event—let's help him stay in first place! If you're interested in donating to his fundraising campaign, you can donate here.

FROM THE R&I COMMITTEE
EXTENDED DEADLINE FOR 2019 ANTHEM HEALTH REWARDS
2019 Anthem Health Rewards Program Deadline Extended to October 31st
If you are enrolled in a CDHP medical plan option, you now have until October 31st to complete all the wellness requirements to receive your Wellness Reward for 2019.
There have been and continue to be issues with the new wellness vendor. ALPA has continued to work with pilots and the Company to resolve these issues. Due to these issues, ALPA and the Company have agreed to extend the deadline to complete the wellness requirements.
The Company reported that only 8% of eligible pilots and eligible spouses have received their wellness reward. We recommend verifying that you and your eligible spouse, if applicable, have received the Wellness Reward. You can do this by logging into your HealthEquity account ( www.myhealthequity.com). You should see a credit of $300 for yourself and $300 for your eligible spouse, if applicable. Click here to read more.
SUPPORT THE PAC AND WIN ONE OF FOUR PRIZES
pr_ad_pacedit.png
**Any FDX pilot that begins contributing to the PAC or increases their donation will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of four prizes.**
The Airline Deregulation Act passed both Houses of Congress in 1978 with bipartisan support and phased out the Civil Aeronautics Board and immediately lifted many restrictions on airlines. In spite of this, our industry remains one of the most highly regulated industries in the world and we as FDX pilots must have a seat at the table to ensure our voices are heard by the decision makers in Washington, DC. ALPA PAC allows us to have direct access to Members of Congress, in a one on one setting, to help educate them on the unique needs we have as cargo pilots. Please click the link for a 3-minute video explaining the importance of our participation in the PAC.
Now, you're wondering, what can I win? The Grand Prize winner will receive a Bose Proflight Aviation Headset and three runners-up will receive a Bose Quiet Comfort 20 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones - Apple or Android. The contest started on June 01 and will run through November 15.

MENTORS NEEDED: TRAINING IN SEPTEMBER
The Membership Committee is currently seeking dedicated ALPA volunteers for their pilot mentoring program. The program's focus is to provide information, procedures and resources related to a career as a FedEx pilot, specifically during the first 12-15 months of employment. The intent is to assist new hires and to help them successfully navigate through their probation period. We are sure you would agree that having a mentor available would be a great resource to them as they learn the FedEx system form. As FedEx continues to hire, we will continue to need more mentors. Volunteering to be a mentor will only require a commitment of 1-2 days per month. Additionally, anyone can step up to volunteer as a mentor. Are you just completing your probationary period with FedEx? Even better—you're likely more keenly aware of the issues and challenges facing probationary pilots.

COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN OpeningS
We are currently seeking to fill the Community Outreach and Military Affairs chairman positions. Any pilot interested in filling these positions should contact MEC Secretary Treasurer First Officer Don Loepke at Donald.Loepke@alpa.org.
UNION DUES AFTER PROBATION ENDS
We often get asked by our new hire pilots why there is a balance of dues owed when ALPA completes their dues reconciliation each year. As a reminder, if your probation end date is after the 15th of the month, your dues will start being deducted the following month. ALPA will attempt to reach out to each individual pilot regarding the amount owed or it will come out in dues reconciliation.
