We would like to wish each of you a Happy Thanksgiving. Please enjoy the company of your loved ones and friends as we reflect on our many blessings this Thanksgiving. We ask that you keep in your thoughts our fellow FedEx brothers and sisters who will not be home this holiday due to the nature of our work. 
In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the MEC office will close at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27th and will remain closed until Monday, December 2nd at 8 a.m. 
Captain Michael (Mike) Plunkett passed away at age 74 on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, TN after battling complications with cancer. He was born on June 11, 1945, and raised in Weedsport, NY. 
After graduating college, he began his aviation career in 1968 by joining the United States Navy with cruises on USS Independence flying the E-2 Hawkeye. 
In the spring of 1974, Michael received his DA-20 Falcon type rating at the Federal Express VA Flight School and there started his career as what we all know now as FedEx. As a Captain, he flew the Company’s last Falcon flight. 
From the start of his FedEx career, Michael continued to be involved in the training department; starting as ground school instructor and continued his service as a simulator instructor on every aircraft he flew. 
During the mid-80s he transitioned from a Falcon Captain to a 727 Captain & ultimately retiring from the line as a DC-10 Captain in 2005. 
After retirement, he continued to be simulator an instructor on the DC-10 until “fully retiring” in 2007.
Michael’s son, Brian Plunkett joined FedEx in November 2018 and is a Memphis based 767 First Officer. 
To the end, Michael continued his sense of humor and quick wit. Michael touched so many lives and always stood up for what he believed in.

Join your fellow pilots and their families on Sunday, December 15th for a private "Zoo Lights Night" at the Memphis Zoo (gates will open at 5:30 p.m.). We encourage you to bring a new, unwrapped toy with you to drop off at the zoo entrance. We are collecting toys as part of our toy drive for the FedExFamilyHouse and Hope House for Christmas!
This Family Awareness event will feature Santa Claus and his reindeer, a glass house maze, enchanted forest, ice skating, over one million holiday lights, and of course animals. We will have refreshments and access to the Teton Trek Lodge for those concerned about weather. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and you are welcome to stay and visit throughout the zoo until 9 p.m. Your MEC officers and other union representatives will be in attendance. We would like to provide some clarification on jumpseating on wet lease airlines.
Amerijet International
The information in the Company's FCIF regarding Amerijet International is correct. The information on jumpseatinfo.org says to call at least 24 hours or earlier prior to departure at 305-704-9650. The Jumpseat Committee advises to give them a call and also send an email to crewscheduling@amerijet.com with you company ID number, all passport information, city of birth, and the address listed on your driver's license.
The information in the Company's FCIF regarding ATLAS is incorrect. The ATLAS information on  jumpseatinfo.org says to list on ID90Travel.com. Make sure when you select a flight that you hit the tab that says reason for travel and select pilot commuting. This will then allow you to pick ATLAS and find the scheduled flight. From there you fill out all of the required information, passport info etc.
We tried the information contained in the Company's FCIF and visited  http://www.atlasair.com/aa/jumpseat-courier.html. We received the following error message when we visited this page: 
Sorry, we can’t find that page. It may be an old link or has been moved.
However, after entering jumpseat in the search box, we were able to find two ways of listing: 
  • Using ID90Travel.com or
  • Agreeing to the terms which then brings you to the schedule followed by the with passport information, etc.
Our suggestion would be to simply visit the ID90Travel website to list on ATLAS.

With the holidays rapidly approaching, many of our Pilots for Kids events will soon be taking place. 
Below you will find information regarding upcoming events in various locations and how you can participate. We will continue to update this list as we receive more information for other locations. For information on the location nearest you, select from the list below.

My name is Pat Meagher and I am a FedEx MD-11 Captain and I have recently accepted a seat on the Board of Directors of the FedEx Pilots’ Charitable Fund. For several years, I, along with my wife and children, have volunteered at the annual Zoo Lights to greet guests and help with the toy drive, so I can tell you firsthand what this pilot-driven charitable organization means to me and my family during the holidays. 
As the holidays approach, we are in need of donations so that the charitable work we do every year for Hope House and the FedExFamilyHouse can continue uninterrupted. Each December we take a day and visit each of these organizations. 
At Hope House, we deliver a donation and gifts for the children. We watch them open their gift and spend time playing with them. We also provide each child’s family with a Kroger Gift card so they can provide a full holiday meal for their family without worrying about the cost.  
LeBonheur’s FedExFamilyHouse receives the toys we collect at Zoo Lights and it’s quite a haul! The families who are in Memphis with their sick child at LeBonheur can “shop” for free in the expansive toy room, so they don’t have to worry about shopping for their other children back home. We also provide FedExFamilyHouse with a sizeable donation to go toward their operation costs to provide free meals to the families who temporarily reside there.

First Officer Rian Cook (employee number 633871) is in need of PDO bumps to allow him to care for his wife who has Stage 4 cancer. She is in need of care 24/7 as she can no longer talk, walk or care for herself in any fashion. When Rian flies a trip, he must hire home health care to watch over her. The emotional, financial, and physical stress is tremendous. We would like those of you qualified to operate in the right seat of the 757 to consider offering your time through PDO bumps to allow Rian to be at home to care for his wife and 16-year old daughter. 
Several pilots continue to ask about our colleague, Todd Hohn, who is currently still in China. Todd is pay protected and still receiving his housing allowance. He is, however, facing astronomical legal fees that are straining his entire extended family’s resources. While many of you have stepped up and donated generously to Todd and his family, it can’t be overstated how much of a financial strain they are under. We will continue to ask that you consider donating to Todd as long as there is a deep need for your assistance.
As you may be aware, one of our pilots, Todd Hohn, was detained in Guangzhou, China on 12 Sep while waiting to board a flight from CAN to HKG. He has been detained in China, unable to leave, while the Chinese authorities conduct an investigation concerning the alleged possession of air-gun pellets. While the future is uncertain, he and his family remain hopeful and are cooperating as best as they can. He has engaged a legal team and has moved to a residential boarding house to save money, but these expenses were never anticipated and are mounting rapidly beyond his ability to pay them. Please consider sending a note or card of support and please further consider donating to Todd and his family at this link in order to help support them during this extremely difficult time. Please keep Todd and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Deadlines for Submitting End of Career Sick Leave/Advance Notice of Planned Retirement 
Pilots Retiring December 31, 2020
If you are planning to retire on December 31, 2020, after your 60th birthday (note: you will not be eligible if your 60th birthday is 12/31/20), you have until December 31, 2019, to submit your Advance Notice of Planned Retirement to qualify for the retirement bonus in Section 28.F. of the CBA. 
Pilots Retiring in the Month of their 65th Birthday
If you are planning to retire in the month of your 65th birthday, you MUST submit your Advance Notice of Planned Retirement BEFORE you turn 64 to qualify for the retirement bonus in Section 28.F. of the CBA.
The End of Career Sick Leave/Advance Notice of Planned Retirement Bonus requires that a pilot submit an advance notice of his/her retirement date at least 12 months in advance of the retirement date and actually retire on that date. The date may be any December 31st after the pilot’s 60th birthday or any day (up to and including the birthday but no later) in the month the pilot turns regulated age (65). Pilots must submit their planned retirement date using the Advance Retirement Notice form that can be completed on http://pilot.fedex.com by selecting “VIPS” then entering “retire” in the keyword search field.
WARNING: You may only submit one notice under this program. If you revoke your notice you will not be eligible for the Section 28.F. bonus.

As part of the Vacation Buyback Settlement, the Company must provide ALPA at least 14 month advance notice of the date the Company intends to pay unused and accrued vacation (pursuant to Section 7.A.7) for pilots who intend to retire on the December 31st of the following year and give proper notice (provided by Section 28.F.1). 
The Company has notified ALPA that for pilots retiring on December 31, 2020, their earned and accrued vacation will be paid by December 31, 2020.

We often get asked by our new hire pilots why there is a balance of dues owed when ALPA completes their dues reconciliation each year. As a reminder, if your probation end date is after the 15th of the month, your dues will start being deducted the following month. ALPA will attempt to reach out to each individual pilot regarding the amount owed or it will come out in dues reconciliation. 

041217_jumpseatpr.pngJohn Knutson was a pilot for North Central, Republic, and Northwest Airlines who lost his battle with stomach cancer in 1997 at the age of 56. John was also a veteran of the United States Army. Several years ago, John's widow, Mary, got the idea to start making Christmas Epaulets. The money started to come in and she decided that all proceeds should go to the Chetek-Weyerhaeuser Scholarship Foundation in John's memory, as he was a 1959 graduate of Chetek High School.

In recognition of John's sense of patriotism and his military service, it was decided that 50% of all profits from Christmas Epaulets be given to Snowball Express. Snowball Express is a 501(c)(3) organization devoted to helping the children between the ages of 5 and 18 of deceased military veterans. Snowball Express is devoted to bettering the lives and futures of the children of our fallen military heroes!
