With the open enrollment of the FedEx MEC LTD Plan now closed, the R&I Committee would like to share the results with the membership. The response level was extremely high, and ALPA National Member Insurance did a great job processing the requests.

The R&I Committee began the entire process with the purpose of providing the best possible product with plan options desirable to the membership. Furthermore, we were absolutely committed to the concept that any new plan options must be accompanied with the opportunity for current customers be able to switch plan options without medical underwriting. Lastly, we sought objective metrics to determine if these goals were met in the enrollment process.

As previously explained, ALPA National is the Administrator of the FedEx MEC LTD Plan. It was during the switch of Administrators that ALPA was able to secure our objectives for new plan options and the accompanying enrollment. With their experience in servicing insurance plans, we understood that a 2% response to a direct mailing was very good. Their view of our results was that they were “phenomenal.”

The enrollment produced 223 new participants, approximately 5% of membership, bringing the total number of participants to 2716. The new plan options were very well received with 797 participants. There were also a number of pilots, not obviously reflected in these numbers, who had not reviewed their insurance recently and decided to cancel their coverage.

The R&I Committee was pleased with the results of the enrollment. This is a product we hope you never use, but nonetheless understand the need for a quality product should the circumstances arise. In our next Know Your Benefits article, we will explain to all participants the process for receiving service or filing a claim. In the meantime, store your policy in a convenient place, and make it part of your periodic review of your insurance needs.
