Council 100 Message - November 18, 2011

Just a short note to ask everyone to do two things as soon as possible:

LEc 100

Hey Folks,

Just a short note to ask everyone to do two things as soon as possible:

1. Click below to participate in the Call to Action against the potential Cargo Cutout that would exempt us from the Flight Time/Duty Time NPRM. Please do this right now; even before reading the rest of this e-mail, as it only takes one minute (have your ALPA number ready for sign-in).

2. OK, now that you’ve finished the Call to Action…thanks for doing that…please follow the steps below or click here to complete the Negotiating Survey that is currently open. It can be done in about 10 minutes if you only answer the multiple-choice questions, or you can spend as long as you’d like and add lots of free text.

Take note of one question near the end of the survey. It asks your preference as to whether we should exit negotiations this coming January or continue another year and get the 3% raise (which we don’t get if we go back into Section 6 Negotiations).  This survey is the easiest way to give your preference on this issue. E-mails, calls, and texts are also welcome. The more folks who participate in the survey, the easier it will be to discern the wishes of our domicile and apply that to the final decision.  The economy, FedEx’s financials, peak business, and the disposition of the interim talks are all things, along with other factors that will weigh into determining our course. We must notify FedEx of our decision by 24 January, and the MEC is meeting in early January to further discuss this issue specifically.

Again, I can’t stress enough how important it is to give your opinion on this and any other important issue. Personal input is the most critical factor in making any decision as your representative, but it is impossible to get the pulse of the group without large participation. Please remember, in the end we all have the same exact goal—achieving the best contract during the next round of negotiations, and doing it in the most expeditious way. While the final decision may not go our way (myself included, as I’m only 1 of 13 votes), we’re all on the same team when it’s over.

Thanks for your time and have a great Thanksgiving!
