Legislative Affairs Update
January 23, 2012
This is a follow up to Captain Stratton’s recent message wherein he restated our
pursuit of a five-point plan and in particular, a legislative strategy designed
to overturn the cargo exemption to Part 117. As I write this, we are working
towards the introduction of a bill that would fix this egregious error. We
worked with pilots from DAL, CAL and ARW last week. I mention this because it is
important to understand that we are seeing plenty of help from ALPA National and
your fellow ALPA pilots. Starting today, we will be meeting with various
legislators over the next 2 weeks to build legislative support and enlist
co-signers for new legislation.
We will be sending a “Call to Action”
once we have a bill to rally around. FedEx pilot participation has been
outstanding. I look forward to your help in continuing this unity tradition.
In Unity,
Captain Fred Eissler
Legislative Affairs Committee Chairman
