To all crew members operating in China:

Recent smog levels in and around Beijing have been high enough to warrant a danger warning from the Chinese government. There are some things that you can do to protect yourselves while on layovers or transiting China.

First of all, be aware of the levels. The U.S. Embassy posts these daily. The link is: http://aqicn.org/city/beijing/us-embassy/. In addition, avoid any outside activity when possible, wear a HEPA mask when you are forced outside, and avoid high concentration periods such as midday, if possible. HEPA masks are readily available at Lowe's or Home Depot and fairly inexpensive. The levels which they are currently experiencing are roughly equal to that of the vicinity of a wildfire. Protection will largely be up to the individual until levels drop.

Regards,

Capt. Ross Kendall
Aeromedical Chairman
