Vice Chairman's Message (St. Jude Car Build) - 5/16/17

We've all heard of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the incredible work they do each day for children who are suffering from life-threatening childhood illnesses such as cancer and sickle cell disease. But, did you know that it costs $2.4 million per day to operate St. Jude and that families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food? And although insurance is accepted, many of the services St. Jude provides are not covered by insurance and will not be covered in the future. Captain Bob McKee is aware of these facts and has taken it upon himself to do something really special, but it can only be done with your help.

You've probably seen various fundraising campaigns to support St. Jude and while all of these efforts have the same goal, Captain Bob McKee's idea proves to be one of the most unique. You may recall the 1965 Shelby Cobra kit car he and our pilot volunteers built during the 2015 FedEx St. Jude Golf Classic in Memphis—it was a great success and he’s doing it again! This year, Bob and his team of volunteers will build another 1965 Shelby Cobra replica. Following the build, the car will be on display at a few different locations around town before being moved to the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, where it will be on display until the auction (the online auction for the Factory Five Mark 4 Roadster Shelby replica will open on Saturday, June 10th and the car will be sold on Friday, June 23rd).

This year's goal is to fund St. Jude for one day—that's right, we want to raise $2.4 million dollars. It may sound nearly impossible, but if every FedEx pilot makes a commitment to raise $500, this goal is more than attaintable!

The hard work has already been done through various videos highlighting this fundraising effort. We have videos from Captain Sully Sullenberger, Jim Nantz of CBS Sports, Factory Five Racing, fellow FedEx pilots who have had children treated at St. Jude and more! All we are asking you to do is make a personal commitment to share these videos as we provide them over the next few weeks with everyone you know, visit the website to make a donation and encourage your friends and family members to do the same! Please watch this week's video from Capt. McKee and share it now: Facebook Google+ Twitter

If you are in the Memphis area on June 7th through the 11th, please stop by the golf tournament and visit your pilot volunteers to show your support as they build this car, and of course, please donate generously to this great cause. What could be better than having FedEx pilots going all out to support St. Jude? To make a donation to this great cause, please click here—no amount is too small!

Fly Safe,

Captain John Cardaci
FedEx MEC Vice Chairman
