Fellow Instructors:

I understand the confusion and frustration associated with Posting 18-01, notional awards, and CIPPA pay. In an effort to add some clarity, here are suggested steps if you wish to participate in the posting.

  1. Before the posting closes, ask your Fleet Training Manager whether they intend to retain your services as an instructor should you decide to bid another position. Management has indicated they may not provide an answer to your retention question until after the posting closes. As such, you may be left with making a bid decision to a degree without all of the facts. With that in mind, and I know this is not a very satisfying answer, but bid what you want to fly because that may be where you end up immediately or after the application of Section 11.Q. Check Airman/Instructor Pilot Pay Adjustment (CIPPA).
  2. If you have specific questions as to how Section 11.Q. CIPPA applies and operates, contact FDX MEC Contract Enforcement (, FDXMEC; 901-752-8749 or 866-339-2572).

I know that some may view this as less than an optimal situation; however, this is the way our new CBA was designed to work as it relates to instructors. If we find this system untenable, we have an opportunity to address this section in the next agreement.
