FROM THE MILITARY AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
Death, taxes, and Company phone calls about MLA during Peak…three things that you can be sure of in life! All of our military members are acutely aware of the importance of minimizing military duties during the Peak season at FedEx. It is the single most important financial earning period for the Company, and manning is always a challenge from November until the first week of January. Regardless of the importance of Peak at FedEx, the United States military does not slow down their operational tempo around the holidays, and many units still demand participation during Peak. For those military members that are able to reschedule or defer military obligations outside the Peak season, please know that both ALPA and the Company appreciate the effort in meeting the demands of Peak. For those Military members who still need to fulfill unit obligations during Peak, please be aware that the Company will most likely contact you to request a deferral of that service.

FEDEX PILOTS' CHARITABLE FUND
W e all work for various reasons, but mainly to provide for ourselves and our families, ensuring that we have what is needed for a fruitful and loving life full of joyful times. Many achieve this goal with nary a bump. Unfortunately, there are many others who are faced with major hurdles that hinder their growth and success in life. In particular, medical issues and crisis in a child's life can have devastating effects not only on the child, but their entire family. And some never truly fully recover, if at all.
The FedExFamilyHouse at LeBonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis provides a sanctuary where families of ill children undergoing treatment can find solace and a support structure to aid in that family's path. The FedExFamilyHouse provides an environment where families can relax and remain intact supporting their child in a trying time. Many of these children face lifethreatening circumstances that few of us will ever realize. The atmosphere the volunteers and employees of the FedExFamilyHouse provide is heroic and noteworthy. And their work is never truly done. When one family succeeds and moves forward, there are others quickly replacing them.
How can FedEx pilots aid in this endeavor? Continue reading...

FELLOW PILOT NEEDS ASSISTANCE
A couple of months ago, we told you about B757 First Officer Rian Cook's wife Shelby being diagnosed with two melanoma tumors in her brain and masses in her chest. Several of you stepped up and offered PDO bumps allowing Rian to spend time with her.
Rian has exhausted all of his vacation and sick time. We are again asking those of you qualified to operate in the right seat of the B757 to please consider PDO bumping Rian's remaining September and October trips. Offering a PDO bump during this difficult time will be doing a tremendous favor for Rian and his family.

The BOD Raffle is now open. This year we have nine prizes including pairs of airline tickets and reward miles. A special thanks to the member carriers who generously donated for a worthy cause.

Tickets are $10 each, six for $50, or 14 for $100. Purchase multiple tickets for a discount and more chances to win! Visit alpa.org/bodcharity to purchase tickets. The Raffle is open to all ALPA members and staff and the drawing will be held the final night of the BOD, October 17. Participants do not need to be present to win.

BOD Silent Auction
The Silent Auction offers a variety of items including flight bags, airline interview prep, Bose and Clarity Aloft headsets, hotel room stays, gift cards, aviation paraphernalia and more. The bidding will open on October 1. This auction will also be open to all ALPA members and staff and will also close the final night of the BOD, October 17. Participants do not need to be present to win.

The Charities
Through our in-house non-profit foundation, the Delta Pilots Charitable Fund, all proceeds from the BOD Raffle and Silent Auction will be donated to two very worthy charities: the Air Charity Network and the Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation.
aircharity.png  Air Charity Network provides access to free air transportation for patients seeking access to specialized healthcare facilities.
armswideopen.jpeg Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation works closely with scientists, researchers and doctors on the forefront of alternative therapies to prolong the lives of children diagnosed with cancer until a cure is found.
We hope you consider participating in this year’s BOD Raffle and Silent Auction to demonstrate our generosity to these worthy causes.  Please visit alpa.org/bodcharity for links to both events.

IPAD TIP: ios 12 do not update alert
Do not update your company iPad to iOS 12 at this time.
Apple released the iOS 12 update on 17 September. Accidental update could cause EFB required apps to become non-functional and cannot be uninstalled or reversed.
FedEx Enterprise Mobility has not given corporate approval to perform the upgrade.
Again, do NOT update your company iPad to iOS 12 at this time. Since we do not yet have the ability to mask the red notification badge that will prompt you to update, we ask that you ignore that badge. Accidental update could cause EFB required apps to become non-functional and cannot be uninstalled or reversed.
The VersionChecker app displays the current authorized iOS version and will be updated to reflect a prompt to update to iOS 12 once we receive corporate approval and we ensure EFB required applications have been affected to the new iOS version.
It is our goal in Flight Ops iPad Support, to continue to provide you with helpful information. Please feel free to let us know what you think by writing to iPad Support at FDCMS@fedex.com.
